My Gallons is in the news again as gas reaches $4 a gallon gas across the nation. With 13 states now reporting $4 a gallon gas it is impossible to avoid noticing the cost of gas.
Mygallons.com is a service that lets you purchase gas at current rates, and lock in that price for future fill ups. Your price per gallon is calculated based on an average price in your local region. Based on this price you can prepay for 100 gallons at $4.00 a gallon. Then you cash in that prepaid gas gallons when the price of gas goes up. MyGallons was introduced in 2008 and became Google’s top searched phrase the first week of July 2008 with the flood of media attention it received.
There had been a lot of speculation across the internet about how much money you can actually save using MyGallons. The debate came to a screeching halt with release of an article done by the LA Times in 2008. The article discusses the F rating given to the company by the Better Business Bureau due to a problem that their partner, Voyager, who was set to process the company’s transactions at the pumps dropped unexpectedly. My Gallon’s refunded the 6000 initial card holders their $30 start up fee, until they could reissue these 6000 early adopters with a free card later that year.
There is hope for consumers to save money!
Since 2008, the BBB changed their rating of the company back up to a B (the best rating a young company can earn). My Gallon’s has replace their credit card processing company Voyager and is again available to help consumers save on their gas purchases.
