“Why do I need SEO?” is a question that we at Envoca seem to hear a lot these days. Search engines like Google and Bing are making it easier and easier for normal people to get their sites listed so why should anyone hire a Search Engine Optimizer?
The truth is that while getting listed on search engines is easier than in the past, getting found by potential customers is harder than ever. The basic truth is that the more people that start to market themselves online the competition there is. As this happens, you site gets pushed down the list of millions of results that Google returns when people search for your product or service. Ever wonder who all of those sites belong to? People that haven’t invested the time and money in genuine SEO services.

One of the most useful tools for new webmasters and people venturing into the world of SEO is a product by Google called Webmaster Tools. Although Google’s no-nonsense interface makes an effort to cut out everything unnecessary, it can sometimes be difficult for novices to jump into using the application without a little guidance. This is where we come in. Below I have outline 7 things that every person that manages a website should implement when getting set up with Webmaster Tools for the first time.
1. Verify the Site
This first task is actually easier than it looks. In order for Google to know that you actually own the site, it is required that you prove it by copying a chunk of code into the top section of your homepage’s code of the site in question. You will need (FTP) access to your site’s code in order to do this or, as an alternative, you can simply name one of the files on your site the big, long string of gibberish that Google gives you.

At Envoca one of the things that specialize in is building websites that generate leads for our clients. It is one thing to design a good-looking business website for a client but it is quite another to build a website that brings business to a client. One of the other things that we specialize in is legal internet marketing. When we work on projects that are a combination of the two you can find examples of some of our best work.
Staying Ahead of the Curve – The Hydroxycut Recall
On the morning of May 1, 2009 the FDA announced that the popular diet drug Hydroxycut was to be recalled due to severe cases of liver damage and the risk of death. Several of our clients are law firms who handle pharmaceutical injury lawsuits and wanted to be able to take the cases of people injured by this drug as soon as possible. We have found that these days, when people need a lawyer, they look on the internet to find one. Therefore, it was important to us to make sure that people searching online for a Hydroxycut lawyer found our clients on Google as soon as possible.

It is no secret that local search engine optimization for lawyers is really key to getting free referral traffic to a law firms website, or in fact any business who does business within driving distance of their customers. Over the past couple months our clients have dominated Google Maps for their primary businesses by allowing us to claim and optimize there local listings. Law firms, as with many businesses which have several local franchises, have a unique challenge of getting multiple locations listed without crossing the line into spam and risking stiff penalties.
Currently we are working with the Personal Injury Lawyers at Ostroff Law. Who has top listings in 5 major PA markets. Including 30 Days To Settle, Lansdale, PA (267) 244-9223. As we setup this and similar satellite offices, we found our biggest challenge was not keeping the firm locations separate, but getting enough online web citations willing to enter the full address for our businesses. If you can wait 5 weeks, we recommend using UniversalBusinessListings and Relevant Ads and Localeze to enter your legal offices satellite location. Wait 5 weeks before you continue trying to list and optimize the data. In this time, you should have enough citations to be near the top of the list.
Once your listings are claimed, if your not happy with where your location lands, then the manual work begins entering locations to the main Internet Yellow Pages. If you need assistance getting your legal business listed on Google Maps or improving the position of your business, please contact us to discuss what we can do for you.
